Two boys, a 5th-grader and a 6th-grader, walked side by side in the outside area of their elementary school, holding their snack bags with their right hands. They had an exhausted posture and dreary look on their faces after the morning they had survived.

“Whew...I wish today would just end...” the older of them spoke with a frown. He had short brown hair, green eyes, and a couple freckles on his cheeks.

“Me too...I just wanna go home an’ relax...” the younger agreed. This boy had short black hair and timid, blue eyes.

“But I thought you liked school, Evan!” the older boy teased, elbowing the other.

“N-Not always!” Evan replied, looking irritated.

“Heh heh...well, I’m glad I’m not the only one!”

“Chris, you’re never the only one!” Evan chuckled.

“Good!”

Feeling glad to have one another on this dull school day, the two soon found a small, unoccupied table, where they ate their snacks and engaged in small talk; they discussed their classes, homework, and classmates, among other things.

“How’s Andy?” Chris said during their exchange.

“Fine,” Evan answered. “Still doin’ teenager things, and not tellin’ me about it...”

“Why not?”

“He keeps sayin’ I’ll find out soon enough. I don’t get it...he’s only a few years older than me...”

“Yeah...” Chris nodded.

You’re almost a teenager...how’s it feel?”

“Feels the same.” The older boy shrugged.

“Oh...” Evan frowned, looking downward.

“Still wettin’ the bed?” Chris abruptly changed subjects.

“D-Do you hafta keep askin’ that?” The younger boy blushed in embarrassment.

“Yeah.”

“Mmmm...I can’t help it...I’ve tried everything, but I still...ohhhhhhh...

Evan moaned, looking away.

“C’mon, it’s gotta stop one day, right?”

“I dunno...maybe I’ll keep doin’ it even when I’m grown up...”

“No way! That’s gotta be a one-in-a-million chance!” Chris confidently said.

“Well maybe I’m that one...”

“I hope not, ‘cause I hate seein’ you so down!”

Evan smiled, looking at his friend out of the corner of his eye. “Th-Thanks, Chris...”

“No problem!”

Despite the kind words, the younger boy still had an anxious, pained expression on his face.

“Hey, you alright?” Chris asked.

“I-I hafta pee real bad...” Evan blushed again, both hands on the floor of his seat.

“Then go, before you have an accident!” The older one chuckled.

“But I-I wanna keep talkin’...”

“It’s not worth peein’ yourself over!”

“I-I know...” Evan looked down in embarrassment.

“Look, just go to the bathroom. I’ll watch your stuff while you’re gone!” Chris smiled.

“Mmmm...kay...”

Evan dashed off as Chris monitored his friend’s unfinished recess snack. He assumed it would take a minute or two at most, but several minutes had passed without his friend’s reappearance; he even had enough time to finish his own snack.

(Where the heck is he?)

Annoyed (and worried), he sighed as he put Evan’s food in his empty bag, and brought it with him as he asked around.

“Evan? I saw him go inside a little bit ago,” a girl replied, pointing toward the nearby building.

“Thanks!”

Chris quickly walked inside, through the halls of the elementary school, until he came upon a nearby bathroom.

“Evan? You okay?”

It was empty, save for one other boy who washed his hands and looked confused at Chris’ calling out and peering underneath the stalls.

“Hey, have you seen my friend?” Chris asked.

“No.”

“Oh...”

Chris exited the boys’ room and continued wandering the school, checking every bathroom he could find. Every time, he failed to find Evan, earning the confusion and ire of those who were inside; with each failure, he became more irritated and concerned.

(Recess’s gonna be over soon! Where the hell are you, Evan?!)

He eventually came upon a bathroom in a more obscure section of the school. As he approached the door...

“Hmm...hee hee...hah...”

Thankful to finally find him (yet surprised from his cheerful tone), Chris entered the almost-vacant room.

“Evan? What’re you doing?”

Aaaah! Chris! D-Don’ come in here!” His voice was now scared and desperate.

“Are you okay? Recess is gonna end soon!” Chris walked up to the stall Evan’s voice was emitting from.

“P-Please! I-I’m almost done!” Evan pleaded.

“C’mon, get outta there!” The older boy tried (but failed) to open the stall door.

“G-Go away! I’m...I-I’m still going!”

“No you’re not!”

“Yeah I am!”

“I don’t smell anything, you liar!”

“J-Just go! Please!” Evan whined.

“Not until you get out!” Chris demanded, still rattling the door.

“No! Stop it!

“Fine, then I’m comin’ in!”

“No!”

Slightly reluctant, Chris got on his hands and knees and crawled into the stall. Inside...

...he found Evan, with his clothes on and looking incredibly flustered. He had an utterly nervous smile on his face, and his hands were in his pants pockets.

“So...what’re you doin’ in here?” Chris asked, unsure of what was going on.

“N-Nothin’...just...enjoying some privacy...” His smile wavered.

“Ewww...that’s really gross...” Chris cringed.

“N-N-No! Th-That’s not w-what I meant!” Evan shook his head, deeply red in the face. “I-I’m just...here, y’know?”

“...so, by ‘privacy’, you mean...just stayin’ in here, alone? Doin’ nothing at all?”

“Y-Yeah! It’s very relaxing...” The younger boy looked less stressed. “You should try it sometime.”

“Sure...um...I dunno how to say this, but...”

“But...?” Evan tilted his head to the side.

“You...you kinda sounded like you were, uh...havin’ fun.”

“I-I just really enjoy bein’ alone.” Nervousness returned to the younger boy.

“No, I think you’re up to somethin’...”

Chris examined Evan and looked around the stall for anything suspicious, but the only out-of-place thing he could find was his friend’s demeanor.

“There’s nothin’ here. I-I’m not doin’ anything w-weird...”

Chris then stared at Evan’s pants.

“What’s in your pockets?”

“My hands.”

“Anything else, smartass?”

“D-Don’ swear!” Evan blushed again.

“Tell me what you’re hiding, Evan!” Chris demanded, pointing at him.

“N-N-Nothing!”

“Stop lyin’! Take it out!

Moaning, Evan slowly took his hands out of his pockets, showing his palms to the other boy.

“S-See? Nothin’!”

Fed up with his games, Chris rummaged through his friend’s pockets.

“S-Stop it!” Evan whined as he struggled against Chris.

“Give it to me!”

“No!”

Chris managed to yank whatever Evan was hiding out of his pocket, but it didn’t immediately register with the older boy until he got a good look at it.

“What...?!”

In his hands was a sizeable, soft, white wad of some sort.

“I...I can explain it!” Evan nervously said.

“...what is this?!” Chris spoke, intrigued and disturbed.

“G-Give it back!”

Evan tried to reach for it, but his friend kept him away with one arm, as he unbundled it with his other hand. Soon, the full form of the item was revealed.

“...Evan...”

“What?!” he angrily spoke, no longer struggling.

“Is...is this a diaper?!

“...yes...b-but...it’s not mine!”

“Where’d you get it, then?”

“Uh...um...” Evan blushed again, nervously looking around.

“It better not be the garbage!”

“I-It’s not! I...I f-found it, on the ground somewhere...i-it was clean, but...I wanted to look at it in private, so...here I am!”

Evan smiled, but his friend merely looked at him in irritation yet again.

“...this’s yours, isn’t it?”

“N-No!” Evan blushed harder, shaking his head.

“Prove it.”

“H-How?!”

“Put it on.” Chris handed it toward his friend.

“What?!”

“If it fits, then I’ll know it’s yours.”

“Y-You can’t prove that!”

Really? You just happened to find a diaper that fits you?”

“Um...y-yeah...” Evan slowly nodded.

“Put it on.”

“No.”

“Do it Evan!”

Chris’ angry glare made Evan relent; he sighed as he took the diaper.

“Fine...get out first.”

“I’m not goin’ anywhere!”

“I-I can’t do it with you here!”

“I’ll turn around, but I’m not leavin’!”

Chris faced the stall door, resting his arms against it and his head against that, as he looked down at the tiled floor.

“Mmmmmm...”

Sadly moaning, Evan pulled down his pants and underwear, fastening the diaper on afterward, while his friend impatiently waited with his gaze averted.

“Okay...you can look...”

Chris did so, and his jaw dropped -- the diaper was a perfect fit. Evan frowned and looked very ashamed.

“Aah...why...”

“...it is mine...okay?!” Evan’s mouth wavered.

“I don’t...what...”

“I...I’ll explai--”

“Why are you wearing diapers to school?!”

Chris had his hands on his head, unable to do anything but stare wide-eyed and open-mouthed at his friend.

“Shhh! D-Don’ yell!” Evan quietly pleaded.

“D-Did you pee in it?! Is that why you’re here?!”

“N-No no! I-It’s clean!”

Evan pointed to the bottom of his diaper, which looked just as white as the rest of it.

“B-But...why?!

“I-I’ll explain it after school, now please, go!”

“Uh...mmm...!”

Unable to properly think, Chris quickly opened the stall door, only to find another boy his age right outside. He looked shocked at first, but then a wicked smile spread across his face.

“He’s a big baby!” the boy declared, pointing at Evan.

“I-I’m not!” he whined, shaking and blushing.

“And I bet you’re one too!” the boy addressed Chris.

“What?! I’m not a baby!”

To prove it, Chris slightly lowered his pants to reveal the rim of his underwear.

“Hmmph...well, I bet’cha you two were sharin’ it!”

“H-He isn’t!” Evan spoke. “It’s...it’s mine...”

What’s yours?”

More boys (and even a few girls) had gathered around the stall to witness Evan’s embarrassing secret. They gasped, laughed, and pointed at him, as the diapered boy trembled in utmost humiliation.

“He’s in diapers!” “Ha ha ha!” “Ya big baby!”

“Get lost, all’a you!” Chris spoke, reaching for the stall door and swiftly closing and locking it.

“Come on, diaper-boy!” one boy taunted. “Don’t hide!”

“Ennnng...s-stop...!” Evan whined, tears crawling down his cheeks.

“Hear that? He’s cryin’ like a baby too!”

“Hee hee hee!” “What a weirdo!” “Does he use ‘em too? Gross!

“Mmmmmm...!” Evan covered his ears, shaking his head.

“Leave ‘im alone!” Chris yelled, his back against the stall door.

“Let us see ‘im!” “Open up!” “I wanna take a pic!”

“Over my dead body!”

The clamoring continued as they banged and rattled on the door, and even tried to reach for Chris’ ankles. He managed to keep them at bay, while Evan sat on the toilet, moaning and whining as he desperately tried to drown everything out.

“Smile, diaper-boy!”

Evan gasped, looking up at where the voice came from; a boy peered over an adjacent stall, grinning as he took a picture with his cell phone.

“No!”

“Don’ worry, you’re gonna be famous!” the photo-taker spoke, laughing at him.

“Stop it! Go away!” Chris again demanded.

“Not ‘til we see ‘im!” “Heck no!”

The two boys in the stall were reaching their breaking point; Chris shook with rage, between the crowd’s constant demands and Evan’s ever-deteriorating mood.

“What’s going on in here?” an adult voice finally rang out, calming the ones outside.

“There’s a kid wearin’ diapers in there!” a girl’s voice answered.

“Everyone out! Right now!

Grumbling and complaining, the crowd left the bathroom as Chris breathed a sigh of relief and Evan continued to despair.

“Anyone in there?” the adult spoke to the stall.

“Yeah...”

Chris opened the door and saw a teacher, looking irritated yet concerned.

“Hey Mr. Jackson...”

“What’s going on in here?”

“Ehhhhhh...mmmmmm...” Evan moaned with his hands on his lowered head.

“Are you okay?” Mr. Jackson went up to the upset boy.

“I...I...I wanna go home!

All of the sadness and anger inside of Evan burst out of him as he cried and wailed, tears practically pouring down his face.

“It’s alright, Evan...I’ll take you to the Nurse’s Office, okay?”

“I wanna go home! I hate it here!” he whined.

“Can I come too?” Chris asked as Mr. Jackson took Evan by the hand.

“You’ve got class, Chris. I’ve got him.”

“Alright...”

Sighing in disappointment, Chris left the bathroom and headed back to class, as the still-sobbing Evan was taken to the Nurse’s Office.

(I can’t believe it...damn them!)

The 6th-grader was tempted to let his emotions run wild as well, after his friend’s traumatizing experience. His fists shook as he walked back to his class, looking infuriated and on the brink of an outburst.

Chris, thankfully, managed to keep his anger in check for the rest of the day, despite the recurring mocking of him or his friend. He had plans to see if Evan was okay, but according to what his peers were saying, he went home soon after his secret was exposed.

“There’s a kid that wears diapers to school?!”

“Does he still suck his thumb an’ sleep in a crib too?”

“I wonder if there’re any other diaper-wearing guys...”

Chris tried to block out the rumormongering kids, but it was difficult, especially since most of them knew he was with Evan in the bathroom stall too. After the third time he had to prove he wasn’t a diaper-wearer like his friend, he stopped trying to convince others, especially since they didn’t treat him any differently after the fact.

He sighed as he waited in front of the school, squeezing his backpack straps in worry. He didn’t have to endure for very long, and before he knew it, he was in his dad’s car and on his way home.

“So how was school?” he asked his son.

“Fine...” Chris replied, rummaging through his backpack.

“You sure?”

“Yeah. You know how Mondays are.”

“Okay...” Dad did not sound fully convinced.

Chris managed to find his cell phone, and called Evan’s home from the list of numbers.

“Hello?” a female voice replied.

“Hi Mrs. Hale,” Chris greeted. “Is Evan okay?”

“He hasn’t really talked to us since he came home...”

“Oh...c-could you put ‘im on? I wanna know he’s okay.”

“He’s fine, Chris. Please, let him rest.”

Chris sighed in disappointment. “Fine...just let ‘im know that he can call me when he’s ready to talk.”

“Of course Chris. Bye.”

“Bye...”

Chris sighed again, hanging up.

“What’s wrong with Evan?” Dad asked.

“He went home early.”

“Why?”

“He...he got made fun of. He was cryin’ and everything.”

“Oh...is he okay?”

Chris shook his head. “I dunno...I hope so.”

“Me too...you’ll probably see him tomorrow.”

“Yeah...”

-------------------------

Evan laid in the bed in his room, lights out and sheets covering every part of him below his teary, reddened eyes.

(I never should have done that...what was I thinking?!)

He beat himself up once again for his actions as he slowly rolled over to his other side, hearing the soft crinkle and rustle of his diaper. It was the only thing that made him remotely happy in his sanctuary, detached from everything outside. Here, there was no mocking laughter, no name-calling, no judgmental stares, and no one to witness him at his lowest.

Unfortunately for Evan, it could not last forever, as he eventually heard knocking on the door.

“Hey Ev, you okay?” his older brother spoke.

“No...” Evan quietly moaned.

His brother opened the door, and a low light shone in from the outside.

“C’mon, get up,” he said.

“I don’ wanna...” Evan was lying on his side, facing away from the door.

“Dinner’s almost ready. You can’t stay here forever.”

He walked to the foot of Evan’s bed, looking slightly irritated. The older brother also had black hair, along with very slight stubble and green eyes.

“I don’ care, Andy. I’m not hungry...” Evan sighed.

“Liar,” Andy teased.

“Alright, I’m hungry. I jus’ don’ wanna go out...”

“Too bad. Get up.”

The younger brother sighed again, sitting up and looking at Andy.

“I meant out of bed,” he spoke, unamused.

“Gimme a moment...”

Andy sighed. “Look, you can’t let all that crap get to you. It’s gonna end before ya know it.”

“No it won’t...” Evan bit his lip, feeling tears in his eyes yet again. “It’ll never end...”

“It just feels like that. Trust me, it will. And hey...”

Andy wrapped an arm around his little brother’s shoulders, smiling at him.

“If it doesn’t, at least you’ve got us!”

“Nnnn...okay...” Evan smiled in uncertainty, wrapping his arm around his brother’s waist.

“Heh heh...so, can you get outta here already? I’m startin’ to feel depressed too.”

“Yeah...okay...”

“Good.”

They let each other go, and after a few more seconds, Evan finally left the bed. He slowly walked outside, but before he could make it all the way out...

“Ah!” He felt Andy slapping him on his diapered rear.

“Put some pants on first, ya big baby!” He chuckled.

“S-Stop that!” Evan whined, furiously blushing.

“You’re still a big boy. Pants.” Andy pointed to the dresser.

“Th-They don’ fit me! You know that!”

“You just haven’t tried hard enough!”

“Nnnnnnnngh...!” Evan gritted his teeth.

“Jeez...lighten up, Ev.” Andy sighed.

The younger brother bit his lip again, trying his hardest not to retort.

(I can’t lighten up after the day I had!)

“Heh heh...”

Andy rubbed his brother’s hair, and Evan couldn’t help but chuckle, despite his irritation toward his big brother.

“Heh heh ha! Um...thanks, Andy.”

“Of course.”

The older brother waved at the younger as he left the room. Evan began to walk out as well, looking downward in thought.

(Will they really forget? I...I hope so...)
